How Matrixify Can Help You Manage Your Shopify Stores Effectively
Managing a Shopify store is not an easy task.
You need to put in time and resources for your business operations to go smoothly. Luckily, some apps or plugins help you manage it easily.
There’s a plugin called Matrixify, formerly known as Excelify, that helps you perform bulk updates to your Shopify store at once.
In this article, let’s talk specifically about how it can help you manage your store’s products and collections.
The tasks you can do with Matrixify for your products and collections
Create Custom or Smart collections

With Matrixify’s help, you can create multiple collections at once.
You just need to prepare your import file with the correct entries. Everything will be done for you once the upload is complete.
You can choose to group your products with either custom or smart collections.
You have complete control over which products you want to include with custom collections. For smart collections, you define the rules regarding how products should be grouped in collections.
How you want to set up your store is up to you.
One thing to note, you need to name the tab as Custom Collections or Smart Collections to correspond with the type of collection you want to create. Failure to do so would result in an error.
Update collection names, handles, or metatitles
Manually doing things in bulk is a hassle. Tasks like updating collection names, collection handles, or meta titles take time.
With Matrixify, you can do things in bulk easily.

Sorting of products per collection page (Smart or Custom Collections)
Sorting your products for every collection page helps you push the products you want people to see. This is just like the SERPs (search engine results page).
The products you feature at the top of the page are more likely to be viewed and bought if people like what they see.
This is beneficial for marketing campaigns. You can improve your conversions rates for your best-selling products.
You’re also sending a signal to search engines that these are the keywords (from your product titles) you want to rank for this particular collection page.

Update product details
There are times that you also need to update some details of your products. It can be the product title, product handle or URL, prices, inventory, etc.
Thankfully, Matrixify can do the heavy lifting for you, especially with these labor-intensive tasks.
This is what the sample file would look like:

This is how the actual import file would be filled up to make the necessary changes.

Updating product details can be daunting. The good news is, you only need to fill up the columns you want to be changed.
If there’s a column whose details are good, do not include it in your file. Do this to avoid committing potential mistakes. Thus, negating the possibility of Matrixify working against you.
If you want to know more about it, go ahead and check this article I have written about the top mistake to watch out for when doing Matrixify bulk updates.
Delete products and collections
Sometimes, there is a need to declutter your site.
This can pay off huge dividends as you make it easy for your customers to find the products in your store. Having them go through page after page will be a thing of the past.
Simplify your store’s layout by deleting products and collections that are not performing well.
To delete products and collections, your import file should contain 2 sheets. One for products and the other for collections.
One sheet, named Products, will contain the data for the products you want to delete. The second sheet would be Custom Collections or Smart Collections to carry the details for the collections you need to delete.

Matrixify will read and execute the contents of your import file going from left to right.
In this case, it will delete the products first before moving on to delete the collections. You can also arrange your sheets the other way around.
It will still give you the same results. The only difference is the sequence of what gets deleted first.
Create Redirects for deleted product and collection pages
When you delete product or collection pages, their respective URLs become dead links.
Such a big no-no for customer experience. Search engines also see this as a red flag.
It is detrimental to the SEO gains you have worked so hard to earn in the past.
By redirecting the deleted product or collection pages to your current pages, you’re doing 2 things.
First, you are keeping your website visitors longer on your site.
Lastly, search engines will not penalize you for having 404 errors (page not found). By redirecting deleted pages to current ones, you’re transferring the gains they have made to the new pages.

From what you can see from the image, the Redirects sheet was placed after the Products and Custom Collections sheets.
This is how you should prepare your import file. The logical sequence should be to delete first (products and collections) before creating the redirects.
It’s more time-efficient this way.
Conclusion
Matrixify can do the heavy lifting for you in managing your Shopify store.
For first-time users, it may take some time before they are proficient in using it.
To help you leverage the power of this app, you need someone who knows how to use this tool effectively.
Do this so you can free up your time and think more about growing your business or brand further.
